Argentina striker Sergio Aguero is on the verge of becoming Manchester City’s record signing after undergoing a medical.

The 23-year-old flew in from his homeland, via London, this morning and was taken to a city centre hospital to begin his medical examination.
About three hours later he left to go to the club’s Etihad Stadium but, with negotiations seemingly very relaxed and moving along smoothly, Aguero opted to take a break and go out for lunch before continuing negotiations later in the day.

It is not anticipated Aguero’s personal terms – reported to be a five-year contract worth about £200,000 a week – will be a stumbling block for cash-rich City who are backed by the wealth of Sheikh Mansour, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family.

City’s previous record transfer was Robinho, who arrived from Real Madrid for £32.5million as the new owners made him their marquee signing to signal their intent just days after taking over in August 2008.
The Aguero deal is believed to be closer to £38million, the value of the buy-out clause inserted in the new contract he signed with Atletico Madrid in January.

“Just arrived in Manchester to finalise the details of signing with City,” Aguero wrote on Twitter.
“Everything is going very well! I’ll tell you more in a while.”
With City striker Carlos Tevez adamant he wants to leave to be nearer his wife and two daughters in Argentina, Aguero is seen as the ideal replacement.
Younger than his compatriot by four years, the Atletico star has been a prolific goalscorer in La Liga and that is why he became one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.
Atletico had resigned themselves to the fact they would lose their prized asset when he announced in May, before he departed to play for Argentina in the Copa America, that he wanted to leave.
Aguero’s preference was to remain in Spain, with city rivals Real seemingly the most likely destination, but Atletico were keen to resist such a move.
So an offer from Manchester City, although Italian club Juventus were also interested, represented a better option for the Madrid side.
Atletico coach Gregorio Manzano publicly admitted last night Aguero would not be returning to the Vicente Calderon.
“It seems as though in the coming hours we will have a final outcome to the issue that has has occupied us for so long,” he told Spanish radio station Cope.
“It is already in it’s final stretch, I’ve asked the players to focus on Thursday’s game (a Europa League tie against Stromsgodset).
“Unfortunately we won’t be able to call on Kun (Aguero).”

Atletico Madrid’s young goalkeeper David de Gea has confessed that colleague Sergio Aguero is a key player for the club, and hopes the Argentine striker returns to action soon.

The 22-year-old has struggled for fitness this season after suffering a knee injury in the victory over Athletic Bilbao at the beginning of September, and he remains a doubt for the match versus Getafe on Saturday evening.

Speaking in a press conference this afternoon, the Spanish U-21 shot-stopper conceded that the team are a different proposition without their talismanic attacker.

“There is no denying that Aguero is a key player for us. However, we are playing well without him. We must focus on defeating Getafe. It is important to get the three points and even more so because we are at home.”

De Gea also commented on the Under 21 squad’s 3-0 win over Croatia in their European Championship play-off on Tuesday which sends them comfortably through 4-1 on aggregate.

“The most important thing was to qualify. We went out to win and we are happy, because it was a tough match and they were a very physical team. We had a great performance and the 3-0 score-line showed it.”

With regards to potentially receiving a call-up to the full squad, the 19-year-old confessed, “What [Vicente] Del Bosque said gives me great encouragement, but I’m focused on the Under-21’s and I prefer to take things step by step.”

Simao also discussed his current contract negotiations, which have yet to be resolved, despite colleagues such as Jose Antonio Reyes, Tomas Ujfalusi and Paulo Assuncao all recently committing their futures to the club.

He stated: “This depends on the club. They spoke to my agent, and I think if there is interest on both sides we will reach an agreement. I can be happy with what I have done here. I do not play feeling like it is my last year.

“I am committed to the group, and I am happy that things are going well.” Source: Goal

Chelsea target Sergio Aguero has not been contacted by Juventus, Inter or Milan – agent.. No Serie A move for Kun, according to his representative…

Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero’s agent has ruled out a move to Italy for the time being. The young striker has been linked with a number of top clubs throughout Europe over the past year, including the Serie A trio and notably Premier League giants Chelsea.

“I have no information on Aguero being sought by Inter, Juventus or Milan. He is owned by Atletico, so if there was anything only the directors would know,” his agent Jose Segui said during a recent interview, according to sportal.tv.

“Sergio is doing well in Madrid, but if there is an agreement with another club we’ll speak with them. The cost of any transfer would be decided by the Spanish club.”

Aguero is also expected to receive his Spanish passport in the near future and thus would not take up a non-EU spot on a roster, making him an even more attractive prospect. He featured in three matches for Argentina at the 2010 World Cup before their quarter-final exit at the hands of Germany.
